The term “Muay Thai” conveys a wealth of meaning to its devotees around the world. One of the most ancient of all martial arts, it is a workout that toughens the limbs and hones the mind; it pushes both body and soul to their limits and beyond; it is a way of life grounded in ethics and respect; it is a rich tradition brimming with beauty and grace; and it is a key to the quest for self-knowledge.
Thai boxing is featured throughout the week at Ratchadamnoen and Lumphini Stadiums. Fights usually begin around 6:00 p.m., with preliminary bouts featuring younger boxers, building up towards the main event, usually around 9:00 p.m. At Lumphini Stadium, there is an emcee who announces all boxing matches in English. There are also many schools for Muay Thai established for those wishing to learn this unique self-defense art.
