Head Massage in a Sand Bath Tub | Thailand Insider
Head Massage in a Sand Bath Tub | The One Sand Bath Spa (@theonesandbath)

The One Sand Bath Spa, Bangkok

Dip into the warm volcanic sand to loosen all of your stiff and aching muscles. Take pleasure in the benefits of the Japanese tradition of sand bathing at The One Sand Bath Spa in The One Residence Hotel, approximately a 20 minute drive from Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

Using extra-large grains of volcanic sand from Japan, The One Sand Bath Spa offers relaxing treatment packed with a wealth of minerals from volcanic sand.

For more than 300 years, the Japanese used volcanic sand bathing to cure various illnesses and promote wellness. It’s medically proven that volcanic sand baths have many positive effects on the human body. The warm sand bath actively stimulates the heart and increases blood circulation. The treatment helps relieve musculoskeletal pain and stiffness while benefiting the skin and assisting the metabolism. The process of sweating in the heat detoxifies the body and purifies the skin. At the same time, the alkalinity of the mineral-rich volcanic sand amplifies the cleansing properties.

The 15 minutes sand bath is recommended to get the sweat glands flowing to expunge toxins from your body. The default temperature for the hot sand tub is 55 degrees Celsius, just like the therapeutic hot sand at Ibusuki in Japan. It is best to drink at least one glass of water before and after the treatment to keep you hydrated.

After a facial massage and body scrub, a cold shower would make you feel as good as new. For more information, visit their Facebook page

The Cabin Creeks, Chanthaburi

Let the sounds of the forest and the scent of the trees restore your mood, give back your vitality and energy. Shinrin-yoku or forest bathing emerged in Japan in the 1980s; however, the concept of nature plays a vital role in human health has been recognized in many cultures for centuries.

Take deep breaths to savor the tastes of the fresh air and let the breeze kiss your cheeks. Touch the trunk of the tree, feel the softness of the earth, and dip your fingers in steam. Onsen @ Moncham, Chiang Mai | Thailand Insider
Onsen @ Moncham, Chiang Mai | Onsen @ Moncham (@onsenatmocham)

Onsen @ Moncham, Chiang Mai

Located one hour away from Chiang Mai International Airport, Onsen @ Moncham is excellent for a short break and a perfect sanctuary for a mental escape.

Nestled among a rolling green landscape in the valley of Mae Rim, Onsen @ Moncham is well known for its Japanese-inspired onsen (hot spring). Since ancient times, the Japanese believed that bathing cleanses both body and soul. Japan’s “soaking culture” includes cleansing down to one’s soul rather than merely washing away surface dirt.

The phrase isshūkan hitomeguri (one-week visit) was established 400–500 years ago in Japan. It refers to the essential timeframe for hot spring therapy to treat some illnesses and to promote wellbeing.

The effect of hot spring bathing is to stimulate autonomic nerves and the body’s lymphatic system. Various minerals penetrate the body, promoting hormone secretion.

Soaking in a thermal bath raises your body temperature, enlarges the arteries, and increases blood flow bringing more oxygen to the brain.

While soaking in the hot spring, negative feelings are melting away. Enveloped in the thermal bath gives us a beautiful combination of isolation, silence, and comfort. Hot Spring bathing relaxes muscles and reduces stress hormones like cortisol, which prepares you for better sleep.

Onsen @ Moncham is a fantastic place to strip off your clothes and enjoy the plunge. Visit their website or their Facebook page for more information.

Tao Garden Health Spa & Resort, Chiang Mai

A 45-minute drive from Chiang Mai Airport, Tao Garden Health Spa & Resort is the place to start a journey of learning, wellbeing, and discovery under Taoism philosophy.

Learn all about Qigong, a traditional Chinese mind-body-spirit practice from world-renown Qigong Master Mantak Chia, who was named Qigong Master of the Year in 1990 and 2012 by the International Congress of Chinese Medicine and Qi Gong. Master Mantak Chia created the Universal Healing Tao (UHT), which is rooted in the ancient healing traditions of Taoism from China.

Integrating posture, movement, breathing, self-massage, sound, and focused intent, Qigong opens the flow of energy in meridians used in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. The slow, gentle movements warm tendons, ligaments, and muscles; tonify vital organs and connective tissue; and promote the circulation of body fluids like blood, synovial, and lymph.

The Tao Garden Health Spa & Resort offers healthy eating according to the Chinese five elements theory using home-grown organic ingredients. A variety of physical exercises like Qigong morning exercise, Inner Smile, Taoyin evening exercise, Six Healing Sound, and specific massage techniques purify the body and soul.

SUP Yoga in Phuket | Thailand Insider
SUP Yoga in Phuket | Skyla’s Surf & SUP Club (@surffupphuket)

SUP Yoga

Combining the sport of stand-up paddleboarding with yoga postures, stand-up paddleboard (SUP) yoga takes you outside of the gym. It lets you be one with nature while posing your yoga asana. SUP yoga allows you to practice the asana on the open water in the most serene of settings like an ocean bay, a glassy lake, and a slow-moving river.

SUP yoga is an enjoyable practice with some serious benefits. Doing yoga on a surface that is continuously in motion makes you use your core muscles. It also requires a different quality of focus not only when you do the poses but also when you are transitioning between them. On the calmest water, a little movement can shift the board a few inches forward, so micromovement is needed. With high waves, the relaxing Downward-Facing Dog could feel like you’re riding a bucking bull.

While doing yoga on the paddleboard, you can enjoy the sunlight and the breeze. Feel the water, hear the bird, and the sound of the wave lapping your paddleboard. SUP yoga is a reminder that doing yoga is not about the perfection of the postures but “to be present” and “to let go.”
