Nonthaburi is over 400 years old, dating from when Ayutthaya was the capital, and is a province immediately to the north of Bangkok lying on the Basin of Chao Phraya River. The town was originally located at Ban Talat Khwan, an area of canals and fruit orchards, but was moved twice by royal order in later centuries. Nonthaburi is now effectively a suburb of Bangkok.
