Aptly named ‘Rose of the North,’ Chiang Mai will host the 42nd Chiang Mai Flower Festival from Friday, February 2, 2018, to Sunday, February 4, 2018. The stunning three-day event held in Suan Buak Hat Park offers vibrant displays of floral splendor, agricultural exhibitions, a flower float parade and the Miss Chiang Mai Flower Festival beauty contest.
Home and shop owners participate in the festival by decorating the streets with beautiful homegrown flower beds. The annual festival features yellow and white chrysanthemums and orchids along with the Damask Rose – a variety found only in Chiang Mai.
The festival culminates on Saturday with a parade and the Miss Chiang Mai Flower Festival beauty contest. Elaborate flower-decorated floats parade around the city, handing out roses to spectators while showcasing dancers in traditional Thai clothing. When the parade concludes, candidates for Miss Chiang Mai Flower Festival descend from the floats and the contest begins as spectators enjoy music and refreshments.
Chiang Mai is known for its cooler weather and diverse culture. As the hub of several ancient kingdoms, the northern city has long been a center for exchanging knowledge, culture and commerce.
