After exploring Bangkok, Chiang Mai was our next stop. Known as Thailand’s “Rose of the North,” this province is a cultural and natural wonderland with ethnic diversity, a multitude of attractions and welcoming hospitality.
Day 1
Not soon after landing in this province, we all headed to our home for the next 3 days – The Anantara Chiang Mai Resort and Spa.
Hidden between a towering wooden wall and the picturesque Mae Ping River in Thailand’s beautiful northern city, Anantara Chiang Mai Resort & Spa is a luxurious sanctuary of striking contemporary style, accented by traditional Thai and colonial elements.
Housed in a striking modern building of wood and expansive glass, 84 sleekly designed rooms and suites all boast a private balcony with a daybed, overlooking manicured gardens, The Colonial House or Mae Ping River. Inside, sunlight streams through floor-to-ceiling windows, with contemporary décor of stylish furnishings and neutral hues accented by distinctive local artifacts.
After learning about the beautiful property, we all participated in our first activity – Muay Thai – which was taught by Anantara’s Muay Thai boxing expert Tanaphong Khunhankaew, the ‘Lanna Warrior’ (also nicknamed Ping).
Out of 134 local and international competitions, Ping has won 112, so we were in good hands when learning this form of art. After Muay Thai, we enjoyed a relaxing boat ride on the river and enjoyed butler service with tapas and wine that was provided by the Anantara. It was a great way to ease into dinner at The Service 1921 Restaurant and Bar. See the instagram video here.
Day 2
We spent the entire day traveling exploring the neighboring province of Lampang. Most visitors simply visit Lampang to see the Thailand Elephant Conservation Center, bypassing Lampang town on their way to Chiang Mai and provinces farther north, but we recommend actually enjoying the sights this province offers.
Recently added to the list of new “Unseen Thailand” attractions, Wat Chalermprakiat Prajomklao Rachanusorn Temple is an amazing temple complex that sits atop a set of mountain pinnacles. We hiked uphill for 15 minutes before arriving at the top where we were on top of the world. Afterward, we visited Chae Son Waterfall where located of a six-tiered waterfall. It allowed us time to cool off before enjoying the food at a local restaurant.
Day 3
During the last day, we either experienced hanging out with elephants or meeting with the Hill Tribe people. The influencers who went with elephants got to ride them and learn how the Elephant Camp Maesa cares for these beautiful creatures while those of us that went on to meet with the Hill Tribe got to learn how these people provide for their communities and converted to Christianity.
After our activities, Dhara Dhevi Hotel welcomed us to tour their property and treated us to a Thailicious lunch. As one of our influencers, Saul of Trend Styled, says about the Dhara Dhevi: “It’s one of those places you check into and never have an urge to leave! Mostly because of the size and the endless activities and amenities but also for it’s architecture. It feels almost as if you are walking the grounds of a palace among the tropical grounds which include villas with private pools, colonial type rooms, and even residential mansions!”
In the evening, we had free time so I decided to do another private Muay Thai lesson with Ping. You can see my video clip here.
Up next – Krabi!
