Experience Thailand 2019 is nearly upon us!
The Royal Thai Consulate-General New York is inviting you to come along to this year’s cultural event on Sunday, September 8th in Union Square, NYC. Admission is free and visitors can experience Thailand in its many guises. The festival is open from 11 am to 6 pm with many enjoyable and interactive activities, celebrating the 200-year long friendship between Thailand and the U.S.
Along with music and dance, there will be Muay Thai demonstrations by Chok Sabai Gym. The Chok Sabai Gym is a community-driven Muay Thai gym in NY. This group of fighters supports one another each day by challenging and encouraging each other.
Don’t forget to bring your appetite for the vast array of cooking demonstrations. Attending the ‘Experience Thailand’ Festival will be one for the books as you wander around the Thai Food Market, experience Thai restaurants, and watch some truly astounding Thai activities.
Feast on some of the most popular Thai dishes from the very best East Coast Thai restaurants. The 3 cooking demonstrations taking place will be by Chef Yim of Somtum Der in the Lower East Side, NY, Chef Boonchert of Nora Thai in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and Chef Bao Bao of Baoburg in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
As the first restaurant of its kind in NYC, Nora Thai offers traditional Southern Thai fare with a modern twist in the heart of Williamsburg. Nora Thai’s tasty Pad Sator Goong will be served at the event! Baoburg will take you on a culinary voyage through the stunning country of Thailand. Somtum Der brings the northeastern region of Thailand to NYC with Isan cuisine and shareable eats such as charcoal-grilled meats! There are many diverse regional cuisines in Thailand, and it’s time you get the chance to experience these remarkable cooking demonstrations yourself.
The Thai Marketplace on-site will boast authentic Thai cuisine, with flavors of Bangkok, Phuket, and many more. The aromatic fragrances, bright colors, and delicious foods will transport you on a journey through Thailand as you’ve never experienced before.
In need of a little relaxation? Thai spa and wellness services will be provided by 5th Avenue Thai Spa & Madison Healing Arts. Head to the wellness area and expect to leave feeling well-rested.
Throughout the day there will be a number of Thai cultural performances and arts by the community’s music and dance troops, with various popular New York Thai artists.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand will be present at the festival throughout the day offering advice and giving information about Thailand as a vacation destination. They’ll be able to help with your vacation by suggesting areas to stay, things to do, and places to visit. They will also be running Thailand quizzes throughout the day giving participants a chance to win cool prizes from Amazing Thailand! For those Instagrammable moments, there will be photo opportunities with Thailand props to snap with your friends!
On-site, we’ll have the Thai Trade Center NY office, Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), Bangkok Bank, and the Bank of Thailand for anyone interested in working with Thailand in a business capacity. The consulate is covering all options to ensure that everyone will leave happy and satisfied.
As usual, the festival will be hosted by The Royal Thai Consulate-General New York whose main function is to provide passports for Thai citizens and to issue visas to tourists wishing to travel to Thailand. The Consulate provides all of the usual consular services to Thai citizens overseas and US residents in the 10 northeastern states. There is a thriving Thai community living in and around New York. There are 50,000 Thai people living in the 10 states under the jurisdiction of The Royal Thai Consulate in New York, while more than half live in New York.
