When it comes to celebrating Pride Month, it should be no surprise that LGBTQ+-friendly Thailand knows how to throw an amazing pride party. During Pride Month in Thailand, expect a mix of music, a dash of outrageousness, and a generous sprinkling of Thai celebs.
While you’ll find sequins and sexy outfits, there will also be exhibits and seminars to address issues of diversity and inclusivity. Also, look out for symbolic marriage certificate registrations as Thailand finally prepares to legalize same-sex marriages later this year. With a lot going on in Thailand to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community this month, let’s take a look at events that are happening around the country.
Below are some the events you can experience while in Thailand. Let us know if you plan to attend by leaving us a comment.
Chiang Mai Pride
Thailand’s Pride season kicked off with a bang in Chiang Mai on May 26! The festivities began at 4 pm at the Chiang Mai Religion Practice Center, across from the Governor’s Mansion on Tha Phae Road. At 5:30 pm, a vibrant parade set off from the bustling Night Bazaar, the city’s most popular night market, and made its way to Tha Phae Gate within the old city walls.
Attendees were treated to cabaret shows, exhibitions on pride history, movie screenings, and many more surprises. The night before the parade, Sapphic Riot hosted an open mic session featuring music, poetry, comedy, and drag performances.
Pride Month celebrations will continue throughout the city until June 30.
Bangkok Pride
Following the kickoff in Chiang Mai, Thailand’s Pride season continued with the Bangkok Pride Forum 2024, held from May 31 to June 4 as part of the Bangkok Pride Festival. The forum covered diverse topics including the economy, technology, wellness, and Bangkok’s bid to host WorldPride 2030.
Coinciding with the forum, the RGB Pride Party lit up Lido Connect on June 1, while the Bangkok Pride Parade marched from the National Stadium to the Ratchaprasong intersection.
The celebrations didn’t stop there. From May 31 to June 30, “The Celebration: Right to Love” experience took place across several Siam malls, including Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Siam Discovery, ICONSIAM, and Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok. Additionally, Drag Bangkok, the most anticipated drag performer gathering, dazzled audiences at Parc Paragon from May 30 to June 3 and was led by Drag Race Thailand season 1 and 2 host, Art Araya.
Pride Month festivities in Thailand continue until June 30!
Chiang Rai Pride
Continuing the Pride celebrations from Bangkok to the northern city, Chiang Rai Pride will take place on June 16. Visitors can look forward to various exciting events at Central Chiang Rai Mall. Show off your singing talent, strut your stuff in the dance cover competition, or perfect your lip sync performance for a chance to shine in the lip sync contest.
These fun and inclusive events provide a perfect opportunity to celebrate Pride in Chiang Rai. Take advantage of the festivities as Thailand’s Pride Month continues to inspire and unite communities throughout the country until June 30. Look for details on the MPLUS Chiang Rai FB page in the coming days.
Ko Samui Pride
Where else will you have your pride parade on the beach other than at Ko Samui? The Samui Pride Nation Festival will run from June 24-29. Among the Thai celebrities in the lineup, look for sensations like Engfa ( or ‘Mook’ as her fans and friends know her by) and Badmixy. Another event is the ‘Party at Pru Chaweng Park’ on June 29, which starts at 5 pm with a host of Thai and international performers and DJs. In the week leading up to the big party, look for art installations and photo ops in hotels and public spaces around the island. The organizers are promising that it’ll be PRIDE-radise.
Phuket Pride
In Phuket, you can join in on their festivities on June 29 for the Discover Phuket Pride in the Old Town. Their parade begins at Talat Yai through the picturesque streets of Phuket Town at 5 pm to celebrate the diversity, identity, and rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
You can expect concerts and educational events about sexual health. Celebs like Gam (the winner of The Star), Ben Chalalit, Mick Thonggraya, and others will take to the stage at the concert starting at 8 pm. Under the slogan, “One and All,” the party welcomes locals, tourists, community businesses, and allies and will go on until midnight.
