You hear it all the time: Thailand is one of the greatest vacation destinations in the world, and it’s smack-dab in the middle of one of the greatest regions in the world. Whether you’re a cityscaper or prefer relaxing on the beach, you can pretty much realize whatever vacation you want to on your visit.

Now, it’s April, and that’s a special time in Thailand. While Americans celebrate the new year in December, Thailand celebrates the Thai New Year in the spring.
Take a few minutes of time to research the holiday, and you’ll see that each day of the three-day celebration is filled with celebratory Thais and tourists alike, taking part in what amounts to be one of the world’s biggest and longest water fights. Revelers break out the water soakers, buckets, and hoses, and take the streets to drench everyone and anyone. If you’re visiting over the holiday, you’d better have your swim trunks and tank tops handy.
But this water festival isn’t just for a big party. Historically and culturally, the holiday is a time for celebrators to wash away the old year, show reverence to those who have left us, and to bring in a blessed New Year.
Of course, that doesn’t stop the holiday from being one of the biggest, happiest celebrations in the country.

For yours truly, Thailand allows me to loosen up, away from the expectations of work and personal life. Sometimes, us guys just want to have fun.
