Loi Krathong is a Thai traditional festival which has been conducted for a long time. The festival is annually held on the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month when people float small lotus–shaped boats, krathong, to pay respect to Pra Mae Khongkha (The River Spirits). The event also represents community participation in khathong making and water reserve which is important to Thai lifestyle. Moreover, a variety of activities such as the Noppamas beauty pageants contest and many traditional performances also showcase the Thai culture identity.
