The Tourism Authority of Thailand (NY) had the pleasure of hosting an exclusive New York Fashion Week event last week (September 14, 2022) along with Miss Universe Thailand (MUT) and Miss Thailand at SoHo’s trending social club, GOSPËL. The event featured a fashion showcase curated by accomplished stylists Hirun Bangkok, Privé and UNIX. Each designer brought their creative interpretation of the Ramayana tale through their designs.
TPN Global, Art Hearts Foundation, and TAT-NY teamed up with the leading designers, stylists, and Miss Universes Thailand to bring the captivating Sanskrit epic stateside with a fashion-forward twist. As the Ramayana is a prominent teaching in Thai education, the NeoRama collection offered a window into the intricate beauty of Thailand’s heritage during a showcase well-timed for New York Fashion Week.
Hirun Bangkok is renowned in Thailand for eye-catching eveningwear that blends traditional styles from all provinces in Thailand. Their pieces for the NeoRama collection included elaborate creations that heavily incorporate patterned Thai silks depicting monkeys, angels, and giants inspired by the Ramayana legend.
Meticulous lacing, embroidery, and impeccable detailing are some of Pitsanupong Juntuan’s many talents – who runs Privé Couture. For his take on the NeoRama collection, he drew inspiration from more traditional Thai pieces such as shawls and sarongs with a colorway of white and gold – to mirror the costume colors worn by the protagonists of the Ramayana tale.
UNIX, a unisex daywear brand, took a more modern approach to their NeoRama pieces. Angie Sankosik, the co-founder of the UNIX brand, collaborated with collection designer Maxy Harnsongkram to design multi-functional outfits one can wear for every occasion. The UNIX NeoRama collection draws on ancient Thai pantomime characters modernized with new details and Thai street styles. With this collection, Maxy hopes the next generation of Thais will embrace the destination’s design heritage.
The NeoRama collection was launched and presented by Miss Universe of Thailand and runners up during the exclusive event at SoHo’s GOSPËL. Methawee ‘Plu’ Sayampol, aka ‘Pattaya Hart’/Miss Gay America 2020/2021, and prominent Emmy-nominated journalist Chaleampon ‘Oates’ Ritthichai co-hosted the event.
At this one-night-only exclusive, one lucky winner snagged roundtrip tickets from New York to Bangkok (Thailand sponsored by United Royal International Inc.) and a luxurious four-night stay at the new Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon, and The Standard, Hua Hin. Ivan Quintanilla (Actor, Host, Travel Writer, and Founder of Traveling IQ) was thrilled to win and to begin planning his future trip to Amazing Thailand.
